REPUBLIKA MAKEDONALDZ

Μ'αρέσει ο Economist. Αναδίδει χαρακτηριστική βρετανίλα (παρόμοιά της μόνο από βαζάκι παλαιωμένου stilton), δίνει εικόνα απ'τη σκοπιά των μετριοπαθών ατλαντιστών του πλανήτη, έχει άποψη και χιούμορ, συμβουλεύεται κατά παράδοση την ακαδημαϊκή κοινότητα και προτείνει επί του πρακτέου. Υπάρχουν φορές που υποπίπτει σε σφάλματα. Τότε, οφείλει κάθε κανείς μας να απαντά. Ίσως, κάπως έτσι:

Regarding Not mad, not bad, just sad of March 20, though in principle your stance over the name dispute between Greece and FYR Macedonia is plausible, part of the information given is incorrect, while key political aspects of the story are missing altogether.

Contrary to what you write, during these last weeks the Greek PM and Foreign Minister have made clear that the country is willing to settle with a name that includes a "substantial" geographical qualifier, or one that "explicitly" differentiates the two peoples. In plain words, this means 'New Macedonia' would also be acceptable by Greece, whereas 'Macedonia-Skopje' would not do. Also, all alternative proposals for a new name that you mention have been suggested by UN special mediator Mr. Mathew Nimetz - neither by the countries invovled in the talks, nor by 'America', as you write.

Most notably, you do not note at all that the Greek government has lately shown a resolve to accept "Macedonia" as part of a possible name for international use for the first time in 17 years, despite the fact that - according to most recent polls - more than 70 per cent of the Greek citizens are opposed to any mention of that word as part of a name for their northern neighbour.
